The 亡灵Undead are exactly that: they were alive, then they were dead, and now they're un-dead. 有些是复活的骸骨或尸体残骸，有些是归来纠缠生者的复仇之灵，甚至还有来自暗影位面、模仿我们形体的无形暗影（umbra）。Some are reanimated remains of bone or carcass, others are retributive spirits returning to haunt the living, even intangible umbra from shadow-realms mimicking our forms. 还有一些是由邪恶的 necromancers 创造的恐怖孽物，另一些则曾是凡人，试图通过黑暗仪式和黑魔法寻求永生。While some others are dread abominations created by evil necromancers, others were once human seeking immortality via dark rituals and black magics. 亡灵The undead are many, but 全部all - almost 全部all - are malign.
Obviously the long-gone 托拉西亚人Tolassians and their crypts overflowing with undeath are a substantial part of the everliving curse of Varannar, but there are 其他other sources too. 被遗弃者Forsaken 法师mages with their forbidden rituals, mad 死灵法师Necromancer cultists, and even heretical noblemen blasphemers. The sheer volume and variety make 死亡death-defying 护甲armor a serious consideration, along with the 牧师Cleric crusading 技能skills.
亡灵Undead are 易伤vulnerable to 神圣武器Holy Weapons, and have a kill-count in the 游戏game statistics.
Just because they are 亡灵undead does not mean they deal 死亡Death 伤害damage, even partially. 它们的元素伤害（或者说它们是否使用元素伤害）因种类不同而差异很大。Their elemental damage (or if they use one at all) varies considerably by their type. Most 幽灵Ghosts, 巫妖Liches, 阴影Shadows and the few 吸血鬼Vampires will deal 死亡Death 伤害damage. However, 丧尸Zombies tend to deal 毒素Toxic, 骷髅Skeletons will deal 寒冷Cold 伤害damage but even that only rarely, and 古神Old Ones employ different elements depending on which One 你you're talking about. Furthermore, 独特unique / 首领boss 敌人enemies, particularly including the 墨西亚诸王Mercian Kings and certain 巫妖Liches, may vary from their 类型type's trend often. 如果你需要确定面对前方敌人时该穿什么装备，请查阅图鉴（bestiary）。Consult the bestiary if you need to be sure of the appropriate attire for whatever's in your forecast.

- though their names, descriptions and vibe, might suggest an 亡灵Undead status, both 芬德里克队长Captain Fendrick and the 僵尸龙Zombie Dragon are technically living. It might be in due course, in later years, they become the living dead, but for now despite their inherent toxicity they are still just barely clinging to life, of sorts...
